Abstract

791,786. Cables; two-part couplings. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1956 [March 15, 1955], No. 6130/56. Classes 36 and 38 (1). A heat-detecting cable comprises inner and outer flexible tubular conductors 12, 16 spaced apart by a layer 15 of a material which is normally insulating but becomes conductive at abnormal temperatures, the diameter of one of the conductors having been changed after assembly of the cable so as to press the layer 15 into close contact with the conductors. The outer conductor 16 may be drawn down to such an extent that the conductor 12 is slightly reduced in diameter. Alternatively, the conductor 12 may be expanded. A connector comprises a conductive sleeve 20 having an apertured wall 21 wherein insulation 22 supports a conductive pin 19 which engages conductor 12. A metallic member 24 fits over conductor 16 and is hermetically sealed thereto and to the sleeve 20. The insulation 22 may be of glass and may be sealed to the wall 21 and pin 19 so that the cable end is located in an air-tight chamber 30. Specifications 619,797 and 705,288 are referred to.
