Abstract
791,421. Electric furnaces. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. Jan. 4, 1956 [Dec. 1, 1954], No. 34826/54. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XII] An electrically heated laboratory muffle furnace comprises a muffle lining M of chrome-silicon cast iron, surrounded on top, bottom and sides by heating flues 17 for air admitted through vents V, the preheated air passing into the muffle through ports 21 in the front of the side walls, and out through a rear flue 20 to a chimney. The lining is wrapped with mica sheet and asbestos tape, and wound with resistance wire covered by alumina cement and another layer of asbestos tape. The casing of the furnace comprises aluminium-alloy end castings 10a, 10b associated with blocks of refractory concrete 11, and outer walls 10c, 10d &c. of asbestos cement boards enclosing a central body formed of asbestos or kieselguhr slabs. The temperature of the furnace is controlled bv a thermostat disposed below the flue 20, Fig. 1 (not shown).
