Abstract

791,361. Friction-grip fastenings; coupling ropes; nuts &c. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 29, 1956 [March 1, 1956], No. 6343/56. Classes 44, 89(1) and 109 [Also in Group XXXVI] A wire-connector comprises a coiledspring 10 tapering from the forward end, housed in a metal-shell 12 which is screwed on to the wires to be connected, and an insulating-sleeve 13, open at one end, fitting over the assembly. The end-turn of the coil and the corresponding end of the shell are of triangular cross-section, an end 35 of the coil fitting into one corner of the shell 12. In another embodiment, (Fig. 4, not shown), the metal-shell has an aperture at each end, and in the embodiment of Fig. 6, the shell has fins 63, 64. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 9, the coil has a double taper and is secured in a twopart hexagonal shell 92 by the engagement of ends 95 with upset slotted-portions 93 of the shell. Alternatively, indentations may be provided in a cylindrical-shell to engage one end of the coil, (Fig. 11, not shown). The connectors may be pre-filled with insulating-pastes, e.g. silicone greases, mineral-oil greases, rubbery-butadiene and styrene polymers, and powdered zinc or aluminium may be included to improve the electrical-contact.
