Abstract

791,351. Centrifugal separators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 5, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 25438/55. Class 23 [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for separating lint from air comprises a substantially cylindrical body 50 inclined at less than 45 degrees to the horizontal, an inlet nozzle 48 entering the upper end of the body tangentially, a lint collecting chamber 51 commuicating with the lower end of the body and having a cross-section greater than that of the body, and an axial air outlet 54 having an inlet between the nozzle and the chamber. The apparatus is housed within the casing of a drying machine (see Group XIII), the nozzle being a continuation of a duct 40 receiving warmed air from the tumbler 1 and the outlet being connected to a blower 38 circulating the air through the tumbler. Dust is discharged from the chamber by means of a drawer housing a knob 52. The air velocity within the body is 12-15 ft./sec.
