Abstract
In the transalkylation process of the parent Specification in which one or more higher alkylbenzenes together with benzene or a mono-alkyl benzene are passed in the liquid phase over a cracking catalyst consisting of or comprising a powdery aluminium silicate obtained by spray drying, the catalyst is subjected before use to a surface-modifying treatment. This may consist of a fluidized treatment with steam for 1 to 24 hours at atmospheric pressure at approximately 600 DEG C., or with air or an inert gas for 1 to 12 hours at atmospheric pressure at 500-800 DEG C., or with a 1 per cent aqueous HF solution at about room temperature.
