Abstract
In the isomerization process of the parent Specification in which a dialkyl benzene or a mixture of isomeric dialkyl benzenes are passed in the liquid phase over a catalyst consisting of or comprising a powdery aluminium silicate obtained by spray drying, the catalyst is subjected before use to a surface-modifying treatment. This may consist of a treatment with steam for 1-24 hours at atmospheric pressure at approximately 600 DEG C. or with air or an inert gas for 1 to 12 hours at atmospheric pressure at 500-800 DEG C. or with a 1 per cent aqueous HF solution at about room temperature.
