Abstract

791,287. Machinery safety devices. HUBRON RUBBER CHEMICALS, Ltd. June 4, 1956 [March 8, 1955], No. 6757/55. Class 80 (4). A safety device for a machine having hydraulically or pneumatically actuated rams such as an internal mixer for rubber or plastics or presses and stamping machines comprises an interconnection between the guard or door of the machine and a valve controlling the ram so that the ram cannot be operated whilst the guard or door is open. The guard or door 10, 14 shown in the open position is adapted to pivot about a spindle 11 to close an opening 12 giving access to the moving parts of the machine. An arm 15 on the spindle 11 carries a curved strip 16 which co-operates with a slotted disc 8 of the control valve 6 for the ram. In the position shown the valve cannot be actuated but when the guard is closed the strip 16 moves clear of the disc 8 and allows actuation thereof. The disc 8 also prevents the guard being opened whilst the ram is operating. A further catch device may be provided which is actuated by the ram and engages the guard when it is in the closed position.
