Abstract

1387879 Animal crates DONALD PRESSES Ltd 5 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27374/72 Heading AIM [Also in Divisions El and E2] A gate 1 on a stock crate 20, is so constructed and operated by mechanism that enables it to be selectively opened and closed about one or the other of its lateral edges. Upright side wall members 3, 4 of the crate carry support members 5, 6 respectively each formed with recesses into which side members 1a and 1b of the gate are received and retained by pivoted hook members 9, 10. The hook members 9 are fast with a shaft 15 secured to a lever 13 whilst hook members 10 are carried by a shaft 16 fast with a lever 14, both levers having pivotal connections with a link member 12 provided with rollers 28 which engage on opposite edges of a lever 2. The lever 2 is pivotally connected at one end 11 to the gate 1 and at the other end it carries a handle 22, by which it may be moved, and a roller 23 which runs around the edges of a profiled guide plate 16'. The operation of the mechanism is such that movement of lever 2, say to the position shown in Fig. 3, releases hook 9 and swings the gate about the recess in support member 6 whilst movement of lever 2 to place roller 23 on the opposite side of plate 16' will cause the gate to swing open about the pivot provided by support member 5. The opposite end of the crate has further doors 40 opened and closed simultaneously by lever and link mechanism 41, 43. An alternative linkwork (Fig. 5, not shown) dispenses with guide plate 16.
