Abstract

790,662. Scaffold - staging supports. COMLEY & PITT, Ltd. Nov. 3, 1955, No. 31433/55. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXX] A device for climbing or descending a scaffold pole and described particularly with reference to a vertically adjustable support for scaffold planks comprises a pair of brackets 1, 2 which straddle the scaffold pole (not shown) the brackets having a pivoted extension 6 with an end stop 9 for supporting the scaffold planks and being adapted to be wound down the scaffold pole 'by a rotatable gripper 17. The brackets have a fixed upper pin 3 and a removable pin 4 to guide the device on the scaffold pole during adjustment and, at the lower end of the device, a stirrup 12 with pole engaging square-bar grippers 10, 11 is urged clockwise into locking engagement with the pole by a spring 16 carried by a pivoted stirrup 14. The device is caused to climb the pole by raising a lever 25, e.g. by a toe stirrup 27. the lever being pivoted at 26 and coupled to a stirrup 22 which is pivoted to a stirrup 19 in similar manner to the stirrups 12, 14. The stirrup 19 has one fixed square gripper bar 28, but the complementary gripper is in the form of a twisted square bar 17 provided with a crank 20 and is longitudinally movable in its bearings either to become fast with the stirrup or to be free. when the crank can be rotated to wind the device ,down the scaffold pole.
