Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XL (a)] In the manufacture of electron-emissive electrodes for gaseous discharge devices, one end of a lead-in and supporting wire 1 is secured to a rod 2 of electron-emitting material, such as cerium, misch metal or lanthanum, of lower melting point than the wire by heating the wire adjacent the end, as by a burner 3, to a temperature of about 900‹ C. and then pushing it into the rod and allowing the assembly to cool. If necessary, the wire may penetrate the whole length of the rod and so prevent or decrease the deformation of the rod when subsequently heated by a high-frequency field for gas removal.
