Abstract
789,650. Cylinder cooling and construction; lubricating. PERFECT CIRCLE CORPORATION. May 9, 1956 [July 7, 1955], No. 14380/56. Class 7(2) Liners 21, Fig. 5, are brazed or screwed to a plate 22 clamped between an engine block 10, Fig. 2, and a cylinder head (not shown) and have shouldered ends 24 seating in shouldered block openings 15. The plate 22 may seat on an out-turned block flange but as shown seats on an inturned flange 16 with the interposition of a gasket (not shown), a further gasket being provided between the plate 22 and the cylinder head which has combustion chamber recesses containing overhead valves. The block side walls 12 follow the form of the liners 21 to provide water jackets which communicate with a cylinder head jacket via plate bores 33. The flange 16 has tappings 26 for studs passing through the plate 22 and the cylinder head to receive holding- down nuts, and tappings 30 in the plate 22 receive cylinder-head screws. Both the plate 22 and the flange 16 have pushrod apertures 32, and plate bores 36 receive pins (not shown) locating in block oil ducts 34 and hollow to pass oil to rocker arms in the head.
