Class 52(2) In a chair having an angularly adjustable back rest, a head-rest is automatically extended from the upper edge thereof as the back-rest is tilted rearwardly. As shown in Fig. 1, a motor vehicle seat 22 is mounted on a base frame 20 to the top of the rear part of which is pivoted the back rest 24 at 26. As the back rest is pivoted rearwardly, a link 32. pivoted at 30 to the back rest, lifts a lever 36 pivoted at 38 to the frame 20. A rod 42 connected to the front of lever 36 and carrying head-rest 44 is thus moved relative to the back rest in a guide loop 48 to extend the head rest. As shown in Fig. 3, rearward movement of the back rest 124, pivoted at 126 to the frame 120, lifts a lever 132 the front end of which is pivoted to the top of a link 136 pivoted at 138 to the frame and the rear end of which is pivoted to the front of rod 142 carrying the head-rest. As shown in Fig. 6, the back rest 224 is pivoted at 256 to the seat 222 carried on links 252, 258 on the frame 220. As the back rest is pivoted rearwardly, it abuts against the top of frame 220 and thus the pivot 256 is lifted and the seat 222 lifted and tilted. Also mounted on pivot 256 is a double-armed lever 232, the front of which is tied to frame 220 by a link 236 and the rear of which is connected to rod 242 carrying the head-rest 244 so that. as pivot 256 is raised, the head-rest is extended. As shown in Fig. 10, the back rest 324 and seat 322 are pivoted to the frame 320 at 326, the front of the seat being supported by a controlling lever 374 pivoted to the foot of the back rest and suspended from the frame 320 by a pivoted link 380. As the back rest is moved rearwardly the seat is raised and tilted and a leg-rest 368 is projected by lever 374. In addition a link 332 lifts a lever 336 pivoted at 338 to the frame and connected at its free end to rod 342 which extends the head-rest 344. As shown in Fig. 12, the bottom of rod 442 is connected to the front of a double-armed lever 432 pivoted at 430 to the back rest 424, the rear end of lever 432 being connected to the frame by a pivoted link 436. As shown in Fig. 1, the head-rest, when retracted, is accommodated in a recess in the upper edge of the back rest.
