Abstract
A detergent composition comprises an alkali metal, ammonium or amine alkyl sulphate in which the alkyl chain may be saturated or unsaturated, branched or straight, and contains 6-24, preferably 12-18, carbon atoms and, as a foam improver, lauroylphenyl ethylene glycol ether, suitably in an amount of 1-50 per cent, preferably 2-20 per cent, by weight of the detergent. The composition usually also contains a sodium or potassium alkylaryl sulphonate, the total amount of synthetic detergent being preferably 15-30 per cent of the composition. The remainder of the composition may suitably comprise 5-50 per cent of watersoluble condensed phosphates, such as sodium or potassium pyro- or tripoly-phosphates, and also sodium carbonate, silicate, sulphate, carboxymethylcellulose, dyes, perfumes and optical bleaches. The composition may be blended by any method, such as spray or drum drying, and produced in any physical form.
