Abstract

788,371. Electromagnetic relays; switches held set and freed mechanically. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. July 28, 1955 [July 28, 1954], No. 21878/55. Class 38 (5). A mechanism for operating switch contacts " on " and " off " by successive depressions of a push-member may be applied to a relay or to a hand-operated push-button switch. A relay (Figs. 1, 1a, 1a<SP>1</SP>, 1c, 1c<SP>1</SP>) comprises an armature A attracted to a core K to lift a plate-like slider 2 guided for vertical movement in a channelsection base-plate 1. A lug 2a on the slider co-operates with the tongue 3a of a U-shaped rocker member 3 so that that end of the member 3 is also lifted to engage a post P and close a pair of blade contacts F. The other end of the member 3 is apertured at 3c whereby it is supported on an extension 1b of the base 1. A spring 4 connected between a depending arm of the base 1 and the member 3 holds a depending arm of the member 3 against a tongue 1c extending into an opening formed in the horizontal top part of the base-plate 1, Figs. 1, 1a, 1a<SP>1</SP>. The said depending arm of the member 3 has a window 3d and when the member 3 has been lifted the window receives the tongue 1c, the member 3 moving bodily to the left as viewed in Fig. 1a<SP>1</SP> by the action of the spring 4. Thus when the armature is released the member 3 is held latched but it tilts, however, so that the inclined upper side of the aperture 3d rests on the tongue 1c, Figs. 1c, 1c<SP>1</SP>. On the next momentary energization of the relay the lug 2a engages the back of a further tongue 3b of the member 3 so that the member slides bodily along the base 1 towards the right to release the aperture 3d from the tongue 1c and the spring 4 pulls the member down, permitting the contacts F to open. On subsequent release of the armature the parts assume their initial positions. A modified " on "-" off " mechanism is shown incorporated in a manual push-button switch (Figs. 2a, 2a<SP>1</SP>) and in a relay (Figs. 2c, 2c<SP>1</SP>). The push-button switch comprises a push-button 6 carrying an insulating slidable bush P operating contact sets f1, f2, the bush being lifted by the rocker 3 when the latter is raised by a projection 6a on the button. The rocker 3 is latched as previously described by a tongue 1c received in a rectangular-shaped window 3d by the action of the spring 4 but the rocker does not tilt as in the first embodiment. Upon release of the button the projection 6a disengages the rocker and permits the latter to rotate counter-clockwise, Fig. 2a<SP>1</SP>, so that on the next depression of the button the projection moves behind the member 3 and releases the aperture 3d from the tongue 1c, thereby permitting restoration of the parts to their original positions under the action of springs 4, 6b, 6c. The relay, Figs. 2c, 2c<SP>1</SP>, operates similarly, the armature A lifting a slider 2 having a tongue 2a co-operating with the member 3.
