Abstract

1,206,980. Etectromagnetis relays; contactmembers for switches. BABCOCK ELECTRONICS CORP. 27 Dec., 1967 [9 May, 1967], No. 58595/67. Heading H1N. A U-shaped cantilever blade spring 40 is secured to a terminal pin 23 near its base and its arms 44, 46 are biased towards one another so that arm 46 engages a projection 48 of arm 44. When arm 44 is moved by an actuator 16 in the direction shown, arm 46 first engages a fixed contact 34 and then during continued movement the ends of the arms 44, 46 pivot about projection 48 thereby reducing contact bounce. The fixed contact 34, which is curved longitudinally and transversely, is carried by a spring blade 33 secured to a terminal pin 25 and damped by a U-shaped spring 37 fixed at 39 to blade 33. In its normal position arm 44 engages a knife edge contact 30 formed on the end of a blade 29 less resilient than blade 33. The U-shaped cantilever blade is secured to terminal pin 23 by a T-shaped support 42 whose cross-bar is wrapped around the root of arm 44. In the arrangement shown two changeover contact sets are actuated by operating beads 16, 18 of a non-polarized relay. Alternatively, the relay may have two operating coils and the movable contacts may be held in both positions by a polarizing permanent magnet. The arms of the U-shaped movable contact member may be made thinner in the region between the support pin and the pivot projection than the region between the free ends and the pivot projection thereby permitting the use of more rigid fixed contacts.
