Abstract

788,076. Supporting cables; damping vibrations. METALASTIK, Ltd., and WATSHAMS, Ltd. April 25,1956 [May 7,1955], No. 13279/55. Class 36. A spacer for overhead transmission lines comprises a link 15 and a pair of clamps 17 hinged thereto by joints 28 comprising rubber bushes, which, by deformation, accommodate limited relative movement of a pair of cables held by the clamps. The link 15 may have forked arms 16 at each end. Each clamp 17 comprises parts 18, 19 hinged at 22 and held about a cable by stud 23 and nut 24. Part 19 has a lug 20 for attachment to the link by bolt 27. The joint 28 may comprise a cylindrical rubber bush 29 (Fig. 2) which fits tightly within lug 20 and is bonded to a metal sleeve 30 which is a force fit on bolt 27. Relative movement of the cables produces distortion of the rubber bushes, which assists in returning the cables to their original positions and in damping vibrations. In an alternative arrangement permitting a greater degree of movement the bolt 27 carries a spherical member 31 (Fig. 5) enclosed in a rubber layer 32 which is compressed by three axially separated members 33 carried in a bore in the lug 20, or by the lug 20 itself, which is then formed in two cup-shaped parts (not shown).
