Abstract
787,676. Coin-freed telephones. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. May 17.1956 [May 17, 1955], No 15439/56. Class 27 [Also in Group XXXIX] The coin-box of an automatic telephone has a coin storage duct in which coins 5 preparatorily inserted by a caller are lined up and the coins are pushed sideways from the duct one at a time by a cashing lever 17 operated by a solenoid 18 which is energized by metering pulses from the exchange; the duct and other members depending for operation on the size and position of the coins are adjustable to suit coins of different dimensions Inserted coins roll down a testing duct 1 having a hinged clearing wall 4 and rebound from an adjustable buffer 53 into the storage duct which is formed by an upper guide 6, by a lower guide 7 and by a lower coin track 8 on a shaft 9. The clearing wall 4 is tilted when the receiver is replaced on the rest and through a lever 13 and crank 12, it also tilts the coin track to return any coins remaining in the storage duct. The coin duct is inclined sideways so that opposite sides of the coins contact the upper and lower guides respectively and screws 27 and 23 engaging in slots provide adjustment for coin diameter and thickness respectively. A stop 15 projects into the end of the storage duct and is adjustable in a slot 16 to suit the coin diameter. The cashing lever 17, when operated by the solenoid 18, pushes the lower part of a coin against a stop 20 until at the end of the metering pulse it returns to its starting position and releases the coin into an accepted shoot 19. If there is no coin opposite the cashing lever, the lever can move further and an adjustable screw 29 then operates a contact 28 to disconnect the call. A step 34 on a pivoted stop 33 carried by the moving contact spring of the contact 28 moves under a stationary wall 31 to hold the contact open until the receiver is replaced, when a pin 35 on the coin track shaft 9 tilts and releases the stop 33. A spring-loaded feeler 38 pivoted on the cashing lever moves with the cashing lever to check if there is a further coin available in the storage duct and is adjustable relative to the cashing lever by a screw 42. If a further coin is not available, the feeler 38 can continue moving until an adjustable screw 45 operates a contact 36 to energize an audible alarm 35 or visual signal or both. Before a connection can be made, a basic fee must be inserted and this is echecked by a lever 46 pivoted at 47 and spring-loaded against a stop 49. Each time the telephone dial is rotated, the stop 49 is tilted and a feeler 50 adjustably pivoted on the lever can enter the storage duct to contact the coin, or the last of several coins, representing the basic fee. If the basic fee has not been inserted, the lever can move sufficiently to close a contact 56 and interrupt the dialling impulses.
