Abstract

717,247. Coin freed telephones. TELEFON FABRIK AUTOMATIC AKTIESELSKAB. Oct. 30, 1951 [Oct. 30, 1950], No. 25393/51. Class 27 [Also in Group XXXIX] Coin action: weight and multiple coin. Discharging coins. The number of cointesting impulses which must be transmitted by a remote pulse generator to turn a coin lever 15, Fig. 4, in steps about an axis 22 far enough to release a coin which has depressed the coin lever about an axis 14 is determined by which of several shoots 4, 5, 6, corresponding to different denominations, the coin is in. In the telephone system illustrated the coin-testing impulses, or suitably translated impulses, control the motion in one direction of a metering device (not shown) which is stepped in the opposite direction by metering impulses from the central exchange and which controls a signalling circuit for indicating to the caller that the amount inserted is insufficient. At each coin testing impulse the coin lever 15 is turned about the axis 22 sufficiently to clear one of the shoots 4, 5, 6 by a pinion 18, Fig. 7, stepped in response to the impulses by a magnet B and .engaging a rack 17 on the coin lever 15 when this has has been depressed by a coin. When the inserted coin is released from its shoot the lever 15 is raised from engagement with the pinion 18 and returned to its initial position by springs. Returning coins. Insertion of coins, preventing. Impulses to drive the lever 15 are also transmitted when the inserted coin is to be refunded: the coin is diverted to a refund shoot 10, Fig. 5, by a plate 26 carried by an arm 25 from a shaft 24 which is turned by a magnet A, Fig. 4, to withdraw the plate 26 (as shown at 26<SP>1</SP> in Fig. 5) only when the called subscriber answers. A further plate 29, Fig. 4, moving with the shaft 24 prevents any further coins from falling on to the coin lever 15 when the called subscriber has answered and an inserted coin has not been cashed in. Automatic telephone systems. When the coin lever 15 is depressed by a coin it operates contacts m1, m2, Fig. 1, which, together with the operated hook contacts g1, g2, closes a loop through magnet B and a rectifier r2 across the wires L1, L2, so that the preselector equipment places an earthed negative battery on the line L1 and earths wire L2 and, after preselection is complete, returns the dialling tone. When the called subscriber answers wire L1 is earthed and earthed negative battery applied to wire L2 so that the magnet A which prevents refund of the inserted coin is operated, locks to earth over its contact al and contacts m2, and at a2 removes a short circuit from across the magnet B. The current drawn by the magnet A from the wire L2 causes the line circuit L, Fig. 2, to transmit a single coin-testing impulse to the calling instrument M, T. If this is insufficient to cash in the coin an allotter V connects to the line circuit an impulse generator and translator R. This transmits further coin-testing impulses to the calling instrument, and suitably translated impulses indicating the value of the coin to the metering apparatus in the line circuit. until the coin is discharged and the contacts m1, m2, Fig. 1, release the magnets A and B: further coins may then be inserted if necessary. Should the call be abandoned before the called subscriber answers, the earth applied over contacts m2, g2 and through the magnet B to the wire L1 causes impulses to be transmitted from the line circuit L, Fig. 2, until the inserted coin has been released and the contacts m1 m2 restored: the coin so released is diverted to a refund shoot as described above.
