Abstract
282,351. Hall Telephone Accessories, Ltd., (Assignees of Hall, F. W.). Dec. 14, 1926, [Convention date]. Coin-freed systems and apparatus. - A coin collector for telephone services comprises a coin receiving and delivering device. which is normally in the cashing-out position and is caused to move to the receiving position and back to cashing-out position again by taking off and replacing the telephone receiver before and after a call, but, if a call is effective, electricallycontrolled mechanism is provided which causes the receiving and delivering device to move to the cashing-in position before it returns to its normal position. The normal position of the parts of the collector is shown in Figs. 1 and 5, Fig. 5 being a back view. Fig. 8 is a circuit diagram showing appropriate connections for use with the device. The rocker B is pivoted at B<1>. Fig. 1, and has three compartments 18, 19, 20, Fig. 4, into which coins of different denominations inserted through slots in the top casing 10 pass. It is held as shown in cashing-out position over a return shoot 36 by a slotted link 68 engaging a pin 70, Fig 5, the link being pivoted to a plate 60 which has a pin 68a engaged by a lever 42 pivoted at 41 to the receiver hook 40 and controlled by a spring 43. The plate 60 is adjustably connected to a cam 61 controlled by a spring 65. When the receiver K is lifted, the hook 40 moves up and through a pin 42<a> moves the lever 42 to free the plate 60 and link 68 so that the rocker can move under gravity to its coinreceiving position, where it is held by a latch 25 engaging a nose 28. This movement of the rocker also frees a quadrant 81 which locks an arm 78 in slot-closing position, the arm 78 having a pin 80 which is acted on by the coins while being inserted. The coins are now inserted and through gongs 101, 102 and a microphone 100 notify the exchange. The coins in the compartments 19, 20 rest on a counterbalanced lever D and, if of sufficient weight, break a shortcircuit 94, 95 of a dialling device e. The coin in the compartment 18 rests on a screw 24 this coin being conveniently used for excess charges. A pivoted plate 37 in contact with a pin 38 on the rocker closes the shoot 36 to prevent tampering with the coins in the rocker. When the receiver is replaced, the arm 42 returns the plate 60 and cam 61, but this movement is retarded by a timing device comprising a balance lever 51 having a pivoted escapment tooth engaging a ratchet wheel 48. The wheel 48 is connected by a train of gear to the cam 61. The cam 61 actuates a switch finger 72 to break contact 76 and make contact 77. If the call has been effective, a metering device j sends an impulse from a battery k to an electromagnet 30, the armature of which releases the latch 25 and allows the rocker to swing under gravity to its cashing-in position. When the timing device has allowed complete movement of the arm 42, the slotted link 68 returns the rocker to its normal position. If the call is ineffective, the magnet 30 is not energized and the rocker carries the coins to the cashing-out position. If the rocker is left in cashing-in position, when the first coin is inserted, the quadrant 81 through links 85, 86 restores it to receiving position. Attempted fraud by pushing the pin 80 on the arm 78 before hanging up the receiver is prevented bv contacts 89, 92 which are closed so that the line is not broken, when the receiver is hung up, and the meter is not actuated.
