Abstract
756,591. Coin-freeing mechanisms. HALL TELEPHONE ACCESSORIES, Ltd. March 1, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5939/54. Class 27. Coin-freeing mechanism of the type having a counter-weighted balance arm 5 moving under the weight of a predetermined number of coins to condition apparatus, such as a public telephone, for operation, can be adjusted to operate at an increased charge by fitting a counterweighted lever 17 which has a cranked portion 20 disposed in the coin path 2 and a stop 16 normally lying under but spaced from an abutment 15 on the balance arm. When the charge is increased from threepence to fourpence, the first two pennies, after momentarily tilting the lever 17 about its pivot 18, enter the coin chamber 3 and rest on a pin 4 on the balance arm, without moving it. The third penny lowers the arm but full movement is prevented until the fourth penny tilts the lever 17 and removes the stop 16 from the abutment 15. Full movement of the arm under the weight of the three pennies reinforced by the arrival of the fourth penny on the pin 4, causes an extension 9 to close contacts 10 and 12 and thus condition the telephone circuit. The counterweight 7 for the balance arm is replaceable and adjustable for varying the charge. Buttons A and B swing the chamber 3 to left or right respectively so that the coins fall either to a coin box or to a return shoot 13 and the stop 16 is bevelled at 16A to facilitate return of the abutment 15 to initial position.
