925,093. Coin testing. FISHER & LUDLOW Ltd. April 27, 1961 [June 21, 1960], No. 21702/60. Class 27. A coin tester has a runway 7 between a fixed wall 1 and a hinged clearing wall 2 and protruding through a hole 8 in one wall is a displaceable projection 9 which engages one of the faces of the coin, the pressure on the projection being predetermined so that it is pushed out of the way by a correct coin and slows down the speed of the coin to a suitable value for subsequent testing. Tye projection will also trap lightweight discs, washers or badly-fitted coins. The projection may be a steel ball 9 trapped in the hole 8 by a cupped block 10 on a weighted arm 11 pivoted at 12 or may be a rounded nylon peg fixed to the arm 11 which also has a screw-bearing against the wall for adjustment of the protrusion of the peg. The arm 11 may be double-ended and loaded by a spring. A diameter-testing block 5 on the movable wall 2 co-operates with a flange y on the fixed wall 1 to hold up oversize coins and with a lip 3 on a coin balance to reject undersize coins. The coin balance tilts to reject overweight coins. The movable wall is spring-urged against the fixed wall or is operated electrically so that it is closed for a set time interval, during which a coin can be accepted or rejected, and then re-opened.
