Abstract
986,495. Coin-freed apparatus. R. L. DEAN. July 24, 1962 [Aug. 29, 1961], No. 31028/61. Heading G4V. A coin checking apparatus comprises a coin entry guide shoot 21 through which coins pass prior to reaching a coin checking means and which has a wall 22 movable, for example by pivoting, in a direction such as to open out the shoot and allow bodies trapped therein to fall clear without entering the checking means. The wall is mounted on a pivot 23 and at its lower end rests on a wall 16 of the coin checking mechanism. The wall 16 forms one side of a passage for the coins, which may be checked for deformation, magnetism or holes, and is mounted on a pivot 9 carried by a wall 12 forming the other side of the passage, a spring 20 urging the wall 16 towards wall 12. In the event of an unacceptable coin being retained between the walls,a lever 10 can be rocked about a pivot 11 to cause the head of a screw 13 to ride out of a recess in the wall 16 which is thus moved away from the wall 12 to release the unacceptable coin,a hardened steel strip 18 reducing the wear between the screw and wall. The movement of the wall 16 permits gravity to swing the wall 22 of the coin entry shoot to the position 25 shown dotted and release any obstruction which may be held in the shoot.
