Abstract

Natural or synthetic polyamide fibres are dyed from a bath having a pH of 1-4 and a temperature above 90 DEG C. and containing a complex trivalent chromium compound of an azo or azomethine dyestuff which is free from sulphonic acid groups and free from further organic chelating compounds but which contains one azo or azomethine radical per chromium atom. The dyestuffs are employed in the dispersed form. Suitable assistants, e.g. fatty alcohol sulphonates, polyalkylene oxides, fatty alcohol polyalkylene ethers and their sulphonation products, alkyl benzene and alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acids or quaternary ammonium salts may be added to the dyebath. Dyeing may be effected under pressure. Numerous examples describe the dyeing of wool, silk and polycaprolactam fibres. Specifications 692,073 and 745,479 are referred to.
