Abstract

786,992. Fastenings. BIGNON, L. C. A. M. Nov. 11, 1955 [Nov. 19, 1954], No. 32280/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XXIII] A device for detachably connecting the blade of a windscreen wiper to its, operating arm comprises a U-shaped bearing bracket 1, Figs. 7 and 8, for connection to one end of the arm 20 and having an open ended slot 5 at each side, the two slots 5 being oppositely disposed and having rounded ends 4 to receive a pivot pin 6 attached to wiper blade (through the blade backing 8) so that the pin 6 can bear against the ends 4 of the slots, the sides of the bracket 1 being formed with curved bearing surfaces 3 concentric with the ends 4 and arranged to bear, when the device is assembled, on a bearing surface (backing 8) attached to the blade. The pivot pin 6 is carried by and extends beyond each side wall 10, of a channelled support 7 carried by the wiper blade backing member 8. The bearing bracket 1 is positioned as shown in Fig. 7, and moved to the left so that the rounded-ends 4 of the slots 5 engage the pin 6. The wiper arm is then rotated in a clockwise direction to the position shown in Fig. 8 the edges 3 of the member 1 engaging the surface of the member 8. If desired the sides of the member 1 may engage between the walls 10 instead of embracing the latter. Moreover the pivot pin 6 may be carried by the blade backing member instead of a separate channelled member and the slots 5 may be curved instead of straight.
