786,378. Valves. VOLPIN, A. S. May 5, 1955, No. 13076/55. Class 135. A valve comprises a casing 10, Fig. 1, having a transverse chamber 18 housing a gate member comprising a pair of elements 51, 52, Fig. 2, in contiguous edge-to-edge contact mounted on a stem 20 for swinging movement between removable seat members 27, 27a mounted, respectively, in a casing bore 17 and a spacer sleeve 43, the sleeve being mounted in an enlarged casing bore 16 to permit the separate removal of the elements 51, 52 after removal of the stem 20. An annular space 31 between.the member 27 and the casing and an annular space 31a between the member 27a and the sleeve 43 form lubricant reservoirs closed by annular pistons 32 subjected to the pressure in the chamber 18. When the valve is closed, inlet pressure acting on the element. 52 urges this element against the downstream seat and permits slight leakage into the chamber 18 to create the pressure to urge the pistons 32 apart to expel lubricant from the reservoirs through passages 38 into arcuate grooves 61 on opposite faces of the element 52. The grooves 61 bridge arcuate grooves 36 in the seating surfaces of the members 27, 27a to form complete lubricating grooves.
