Abstract

A chemical nickel-plating bath of the nickel cation-hypophosphite anion type is regenerated by the addition thereto, continuously or periodically, of soluble alkali, e.g. sodium hydroxide or bicarbonate, nickel hypophosphite, and hypophosphorous acid and/or an alkali- or alkaline earth-metal hypophosphite, e.g. sodium hypophosphite. The bath may be formed using a nickel salt selected from the chloride, sulphate, acetate and hypophosphite, a hypophosphite selected from hypophosphorous acid and sodium, potassium and calcium hypophosphite, and organic additives and stabilizing cations such as those described in Specifications 785,694, 785,696 and 786,175; its pH may be adjusted with sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride. Plating may be performed using the continuous system of Specification 785,693.
