Abstract
785,543. Door operating-appliances. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. July 5, 1955 [July 19, 1954; Dec. 17, 1954], Nos. 21020/54 and 36615/54. Class 65(1) [Also in Group XXXII] A mine car 10, Figs. 1 and 3 (Provisional 21020/54) has drop - bottom doors 12a, 12b, to which track wheels 11a, 11b are attached by springs 13 and hangers 14. Channels 15 are provided at the sides of the car for engaging rollers 16 carried on support means spanning a discharge pit, so that the weight of the car can be transferred from the wheels 11a, 11b to the rollers 16. The doors 12a, 12b are provided with triangular plates 18 with slots 19 allowing limited vertical movement of cross shafts 20 carried by links 22 which are pivoted at 21 to the plates 18. The links at their upper ends have projections for engagement with catch plates 24 to lock the doors when the cross shafts 20 are at the bottom of the slots 19. Each cross shaft 20 has rollers 23 which engage an abutment 28a on a guide 28 when the mine car approaches the discharge pit. This causes the cross shaft to be raised and the door to be unlatched. As the car moves further forward the weight of the door is transferred from the wheels to the rollers 23, which travel down an inclined part of the guide rail 28, allowing the door to open gradually. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 (Provisional 36615/54), the discharge pit D is spanned by members B provided with flanged wheels A which engage channel members 15 forming part of the mine car. Each member 15 has a latch plate 24 adapted to engage a latch 22 on a cross shaft 20 which passes through a slot 19 in a plate 18 carried by the drop-bottom door 12a. As the mine car approaches the discharge pit a tripper F engages a shoe F<SP>1</SP> on the shaft 20 to raise the shaft and cause unlatching of the latch 22 from the plate 24. Also a wheel 11a on the door 12a and a roller R on the shaft 20 run down one track rail 29 and the door opens gradually. The track rail 29 is disconnected from track rail 30 which is eventually engaged by the wheel 11a and roller R and the latch 22 reengages the latch plate 24. In a modification the end of the drop-bottom door is engaged by a latch on a cross shaft provided at the ends with cams which are operated by fixed plates carried by the members spanning the discharge pit.
