Abstract

358,243. Endless chain elevators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of James, H. D. ; 435, Locust Street, Edge wood, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Sept. 18, 1930, No. 27965. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1929. [Class 78 (i).] In an endless chain elevator system for parking motor cars and storing loads in a building, the chain moves in a circuitous path having one or more reentrant loop portions and the load carriers are attached to the chain in such a manner that their points of suspension may move in opposite directions laterally to the line of movement of the elevator. Each elevator 11, Fig. 1, is passed round sheaves 14 .. 19 and comprises a pair of parallel chains provided with plates 27, Fig. 3, for the attachment of load carriers 26. The outer end of the crosshead 29 of each load carrier is provided with a roller which runs in a closed track 28 in the adjacent plate 27. A guide 45 is provided for each side of each crosshead. Each elevator is driven by a number of driving units 46, 51. Each unit 51 includes a sprocket 47 engaging the chain 12 and driven by a motor 49 through reduction gearing 48. Each sprocket 47 is geared directly to a similar sprocket 50 engaging the opposite run of the chain. A unit 51 comprises sprockets 52, 53 connected by gearing, shafting, or belting 54 to a motor 55. The sprockets are kept in engagement with the chains by discs or wheels 56. Motor cars are transferred from the entrance driveway to the carriers 26 by endless belts 62, Fig. 7, and are discharged from the carriers by endless belts 63. In a modification each carrier is provided with a movable carriage 64, Fig. 9, for transferring the motor cars. Each carriage is provided with locking rods 200a, 200b which engage depressions 102 in the carrier. Specification 345,373 is referred to.
