Class 89(3) A pocket stapling machine has a knife or driving blade 21 which is guided between a pair of lugs 20, solid with the front of the staple guide rail 7 and a pair of lugs 24 solid with a bolt 25 secured on the rail 7, the bolt 25 having a lug 26 projecting forwardly through a vertical aperture 22 in the knife 21 which is thus held laterally and the vertical stroke of which _ is limited by the length of the aperture. The knife 21 is freely engaged by the limb 30 of a hairpin spring the other limb 29 of which passes through apertured lugs 28 struck up from the rail 7. The outer casing 35 is formed with ears 38 notched at 39 to provide supports for lateral lugs 23 of the knife 21. A U- shaped leaf spring 40 bears against the staple guide 7 and the casing 35, and serves to retain a plate 42 which bears the trade-mark of the machine, in an opening 41 in the casing. The guide 7 and casing 35 are pivoted to a base B by a pin 6 and a spring 11 wound on the pin 6 holds the staple guide 7 and the base B in spaced relationship in a position determined by projections 4 on, the base engaging holes 10 in the rail. The projections 4 have rounded heads so as to permit their disengagement from the holes 10 in order that the base B may be folded backwards for the purpose of loading the machine with staples and for "tacking".
