853,556. Stapling machines. SACHS, M., ASPLIN, L., HOWGATE, I., and NASH, H., [trading as METALLWARENFABRIK H. SACHS]. Oct. 22, 1957 [Oct. 22, 1956], No. 32983/57. Class 89(3) A pliers type stapling machine comprises a pair of lever arms 5, 6 pivotally connected together at 7, and a stapling unit comprising a base plate 1, a staple guide 2 and a pressure lever 3 interconnected by a common pivot 4, the base plate 1 being located in the lever arm 5 and the lever arm 6 being provided with a pressure roller 16 which registers with a raised cam 15 mounted on the pressure lever 3, the arrangement being such that in operating the machine by squeezing together the lever arms 5, 6, the roller 16 runs up the cam and an accelerated movement is imparted to the lever 3 for quick driving of the staple. The base plate 1 is received by a recess 9 at the front of the lever arm 5 and is held at its rear by a resilient stop 10. The pivot 4 snaps into holes 11 of the lever arm 5. The stop 10 also serves as a fulcrum against which the pressure arm can be applied in order to remove the stapling unit from the lever arm 5. The lever arm 5 is formed with a slot 8 into which a work piece is inserted, the slot on one or both flanges of the lever arm 5 being provided with a tooth 13 which indicates the exact position of the staple ejection passage of the stapling unit.
