Abstract

783,972. Road rollers. OBERBACH, J. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953 ; July 27, 1954], No. 29329/54. Class 6(1). A roller for use in constructing road surfaces is arranged so that the indentation depth and the load of a plurality of roller bodies are adjustable independently of each other. As shown the roller is provided with wheels 12 which run on tracks 13 and hollow support members 18, 19, 20 are arranged transversely and interconnected by beams 21 to form a rigid body. The members 18, 19, 20 may be filled with ballast. The rollers 16 which may be hollow and filled with ballast are provided with shafts which are loosely rotatable in L-shaped members 15 which are pivoted at 15a to the body and are provided with pressure cylinders 17 which are operated by a valve 28 by means of a handle 34 which also controls a driving motor 22. The indentation depth y is adjusted by means of stops 23 which abut on the members 15 and the consolidation pressure of the rollers is increased by means of the pressure cylinders 17. The valve 28 is so coupled to the handle 34 that when the roller is stationary the rollers 16 are raised clear of the ground. In a modification a roller is mounted on a shaft provided with plates which slide in guides and the movement of the roller in a downward direction is limited by adjusting screws. The pressure exerted by the roller is adjusted by means of removable weights mounted on arms which bear on the adjusting screws.
