A detachable unit intended to carry components such as condensers, resistances, and valves, for a computer, comprises a channel-section base 11 to which are riveted insulating strips 13 supporting lugs 33 adapted to provide connectors for the components at one end and inwardly-bent contacts 35 at the other end. The base 11 also supports a pair of plug members 17, 21 at its ends, those 21 being differently spaced from those 17 to ensure correct coupling of the unit with corresponding sockets 17<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>1</SP> on the cooperating coupling part 31, Fig. 7. A plate 41 supporting valve sockets 59 is spaced from the element 11 by spacers 43 bored and threaded at each end to receive securing studs, the upper studs 51<SP>1</SP> being extended to provide handles. The spacers are grooved at 61 to support a series of flexible insulating plates 63, the edges of which are nicked to support the leads of the components. The part 31 comprises frame members 111, 113 screwed together and supporting insulating boards 103 each comprising a pile of thin strips glued together and carrying lugs the ends of which on the one side of the board are turned over at 107 to form companion contacts to those 35 of the plug-in unit. When the two parts are coupled together, a pair of locking screws 121 having clearance with the plates 41 and 63 are rotated so that their threaded ends 123 engage threaded holes 125 in members 115, whereby a flange 127 on each screw bears on the base 11 to urge the contacts 35 tightly against contacts 107. The boards 103 are adapted to receive units of only half the length of that shown (Fig. 3, not shown).
