Abstract

A composition for use as a vulcanization accelerator comprises an arylthiazyl disulphide and an alkyl ester or hexitan mono-ester of a fatty acid having from six to eighteen carbon atoms of a rosin acid or of a mixture thereof, said alkyl ester containing not more than four carbon atoms in the alkyl group. Preferably the composition also contains a light mineral oil, the combined weight of the oil and ester not exceeding 5 per cent of the dry weight of the disulphide. The arylthiazyl disulphide may comprise benzothiazyl disulphide, and the ester may comprise 2, 5 methyl laurate, 2, 5 ethyl octanoate, 2, 5 ethyl laurate, 2, 5 methyl octanoate, 2, 5 methyl abietate, 2, 5 butyl stearate, 2, 5 methyl hexanoate, 2, 5 methyl myristate, 2, 5 methyl stearate, 2, 5 butyl oleate, 2, 5 methyl esters of fatty acids from oxidation of aliphatic hydrocarbons, 2, 5 sorbitan monopalmitate, and 2, 5 methylated tall oil.
