Abstract

A polyolefin is stabilized with a compound of formula (1) or (2): <FORM:0945832/C3/1> or <FORM:0945832/C3/2> wherein R is H, a C1 to C18 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, halogen, a nitro group or a free or esterified carboxyl group; n is 0 or from 1 to 8; x is C1 to C34 alkoxy, amino or substituted amino; R1 is a C2 to C12 hydrocarbon group which may contain -OH; and m is from 1 to 6. The polyolefin may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butene, hexene, methyl pentene or dimethyl hexene, and the stabilizer exemplified is bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)- pentanoic acid dodecyl ester. Solvents such as acetone or methylene chloride may be utilized in forming the compositions, which may contain other stabilizers such as di-(octadecyl)-disulphide, thio-dipropionic acid lauryl ester or calcium stearate.
