Abstract
Polymers of olefins are stabilized with a compound (RS)3P and optionally an additional stabilizer (RO)3P wherein each R is a hydrocarbon radical having 6 to 20 carbon atoms. Of the many specified stabilizers those preferred are trilauryl, triphenyl and tribenzyl trithiophosphites, and triphenyl and phenyl didecyl phosphites. The polymers may be those of ethylene, propylene, butene, isobutylene, hexene, 4-methyl pentene-1 and mixtures thereof. Auxiliary stabilizers also may be present and many metal soaps, epoxy resins and compounds, and polycarboxylic acids are listed. Acetone is exemplified as a solvent for use in forming the mixtures.
