Abstract

A heat-softening composition with flexible and fluid-impervious qualities comprises a blend of polyvinyl chloride and a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer (see Group V). The composition consists of the following parts by weight: butadiene-acrylonitrile, 95; polyvinyl chloride, 55; di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, 15; silica particles, 20; clay, 5; mercapto benzothiazole, 0.5; sulphur, 3; di-heptyl diphenylamine, 1.5; calcium stearate, 0.7. As plasticizer, tricresyl phosphate, dicapryl phthalate and tri-2-ethylhexyl phosphate may be substituted for the di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate. As accelerators, benzothiazyl disulphide and dithiocarbamates may be substituted for the mercapto benzothiazole. The last two ingredients in the above composition, which comprise an antioxidant and stabilizer combination, may be replaced by calcium or cadmium soaps, calcium acetate, oxides of bismuth or barium, and organo-metallic compounds containing tin.
