782,529. Proof printing. SOLDANS, Ltd. April 13, 1956 [April 14, 1955], No. 10808/55. Class 100(2) A flat-bed proof-printing press comprises a type bed 15 on a frame 11 provided with rails 12, a carriage 13 adapted to be moved manually along the rails 12, the carriage having eccentric bearings 17 supporting an impression cylinder 14, and other bearings to support an inking-carriage 22, a paper roll 25, and two paper guide rolls 27, 28. When a lever 18 is moved to the left, the eccentric bearings 17 are rocked and the cylinder 14 is lowered on to the type bed 15: simultaneously, the inking-carriage 22 is lowered, so that the roller 23 therein rests on the bed. On continued movement of the lever 18, the carriage 13 runs along the rails 12, the type is inked, and the cylinder 14 presses paper from the roll 25 on to the inked type. When the lever 18 is moved to the right, a cutter-blade 30, co-operating with a fixed blade 29, cuts off the printed paper. The bearings 17 are operated by a crank 19 pivoted to an adjustable lever 20 secured to a shaft 21 journalled in the carriage 13; the blade 30 is connected by a link 32 to a crank 31 secured to the shaft 21; and the operating lever 18 is also secured to the shaft 21. The inking-carriage is raised and lowered through means 33, 34 connected with the bearings 17. Paper from the roll 25 is passed around the cylinder 14, and between the rollers 27, 28 and cutter-blades 29, 30.
