Abstract

1434602 Rotary presses; mounting cylinders JAMES HALLEY & SONS Ltd 11 April 1974 [16 Jan 1973] 2174/73 Heading B6C The printing cylinder 19, Fig. 2, of a rotary press is mounted on a cradle 17 which comprises a beam 14 carrying a pair of supports 15, at least one of which is movable along rails 16 to adjust for different lengths of cylinder, the supports 15 including bearings 17 for journals 18 of the cylinder 19 and the cradle 13 being movable in the frame of the press to position the printing cylinder in relation to the impression cylinder. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the beam 14 carries wheels 24 which co-operate with rails 21 mounted on the press frame 10, the movement being accomplished by screw jack 22; in an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the beam (114) is movable vertically under fluid pressure. In either embodiment the printing cylinder co-operates with impression cylinder (20), Fig. 1 (not shown), to print a web (27) a back-up roller (26) contacting the impression cylinder as it is urged downwards by rams (12).
