Abstract

1328257 Printing apparatus H P DAHLGREN 7 Sept 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 42703/70 Heading B6C Newsprint 2 is simultaneously printed on both sides in a rotary lithographic press in which two plate cylinders 4, 40 each carrying a plate 6 of copper and chrome on a stainless steel or aluminium base are pressed into contact with the web on either side. Each plate carries a recessed image and inking means are provided for inking such image. The pressure between the cylinders is such that the rough irregular surface of the web is ironed out and both cylinders 4 and 40 are provided with devices for axial and circumferential adjustment of the plates thereon. Both plates are clamped by devices 8 (Fig. 2) having axially located actuating rods 10 mounted in eccentric bearings and, if necessary, the inking and damping roller trains to one cylinder may be tripped off. to allow printing of the web on only one side. Electrostatic troubles between the press and the moving web are substantially eliminated by making the cylinders of an electrically conductive material.
