Abstract

Sodium monochloroacetate is prepared by mixing molten monochloroacetic acid having a temperature of 60 DEG to 100 DEG C., preferably 70 DEG to 80 DEG C., with a concentrated sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate solution, or a concentrated sodium carbonate suspension, or finely-divided sodium carbonate powder, in a spray drier, and simultaneously blowing in drying air. The sodium carbonate powder is preferably supplied together with the drying air. A number of examples are given.
