Abstract
782,379. Washing granular materials. ALEXANDRA TRANSPORT CO.. Ltd. April 30, 1956 [Jan. 31, 1955], No. 2782/55. Class 82(2) Apparatus for washing granular materials comprises a pair of spaced open-topped drums 1, 2 arranged one within the other, the upper end of the inner drum 2 terminating below the upper end of the outer drum 1, at least one pipe 11, 12 leading to the inner drum and connectible to a source of water supply, a common central outlet 4 located in the bases of the drums and leading to a delivery. vessel or shoot 13. and means for preventing the flow ot unwashed material directly to the outlet. The inner drum 2 may be lined with resilient material 3, e.g. rubber. The base of drum 2 is raised on supports 5 above the base of drum 1. A structure 6 depends from bars 7, 8 and carries a horizontal baffle plate 9 masking the outlet pipe 4 and deflecting material admitted to the drum 2 towards the side. Shoot 10 leads to the interior of structure 6 for admitting material to be washed. The flow of water to drum 2 (which water imparts a swirl to the materials), is controlled to provide a slight overflow of water and dirt to the space between the drums, which flow passes out through an outlet 16. Several such apparatus may be placed in series.
