Abstract
659,427. Washing granular materials. SIMON-CARVES, Ltd. and BANKS, H. Feb. 8, 1949, No. 3399. [Class 82(ii)] The sinks are removed from a sink-andfloat coal washing plant by means of a scraper conveyer m and the floats by an open type wheel a with. its axis parallel to the direction of travel of the conveyer, the sinks falling from the wheel into the scraper conveyer which passes beneath the said wheel. In the form described, the wheel comprises annular rings d connected by perforated plates e which are set at an angle to the radii of the wheel running on rollers, a fixed plate j within the wheel being fitted to prevent the raw coal, which is fed at b together with separating medium from the sprays c, from passing through the wheel. At the lowest position of the wheel, the sinks fall on to the scraper conveyer m which runs within a depression h, and as the wheel revolves the plates e discharge the floats on to a fixed screen o. The floats may then be fed to a second similar bath having a less dense separating medium therein or fed direct to the spraying screens where the adhering medium is washed off. The conveyer m runs in a curved path in its lower length and the return or upper length p travels through the open type wheel.
