Abstract
727,690. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Oct. 22, 1953 [Oct. 25, 1952], No. 26838/52. Class 111. Apparatus for separating grit from liquid, e.g. sewage comprises one or more longitudinal grit settlement channels 10 spanned by a travelling gantry 16 carrying pumping mechanism 14, 15, 17 for lifting grit from the channel or channels 10 and delivering it through a pipe 24 to a grit trough 26 and one or more stationary washers 30 into which the grit trough 26 discharges through a duct or ducts 28 and from which washed grit is discharged by the head of water in said washer or washers 30 into a wagon 35 near ground level. The grit t ough 26 runs above and parallel to one of the sides 12 of the channel or channels 10. The washer 30 includes a weir 32 over which lighter material is carried and returned by an overflow pipe 33 to points downstream of the settlement channel or channels 10.
