Classes 79(2) and 79(5) [Also in Group XXIV] In a tractor having an engine driven flywheel D, a clutch E, a power take-off shaft 14 driven directly by the flywheel D and a hollow shaft 31 driven through the clutch E, the shaft 31 carries the cage 47 of a planetary gear comprising sun gears 49, 53 on the shaft 14 and on the input shaft 54 of a change speed gear 13, planet gears 50, 52, and a band 55 for holding the cage 47, the clutch E being disengageable and the band applied whereby the shaft 54 is driven through the gears 49, 50, 52, 53. As shown, the clutch E is controlled by a pedal 42 through a link 44, a cross shaft 41, an arm 40 on the shaft 41 engaging a collar 39 mounted on the shaft 31 and the collar 39 being engaged by levers 36 whereby depression of the pedal causes relaxation of the clutch engaging pressure exerted by springs 33. The shaft 31 slidably carries a gear 68 which can mesh with a gear 39 on a shaft 70 whereby a transverse power take-off shaft 77 can be driven. The shaft 54 is driven at engine speed by the clutch E being engaged and the band 55 being disengaged from the cage 50, and the shaft is driven at less than engine speed by disengaging the clutch E and braking the cage 50 by means of the band 55. The band 55 is actuated from the pedal 42 through a link 60 and an arm 59. By adjustment of the lengths of the links 44, 60 the pedal 42 can operate the clutch E and the band 55 sequentially, whereby with the clutch E disengaged and the band 55 disengaged from the cage 47 the change speed gear 13 can be adjusted. A toe latch G can hold the pedal 42 in the clutch-disengaged position. The change speed gear 13 comprises a driving gear 16 on the shaft 54 meshing with a gear cluster 22 connected by a one-way clutch 23 to the hub 24 of a gear 25. The cluster 22 is connectible by a slidable gear 17 to a cluster 18 having gears 18a, 18b meshing with a gear 29 and the gear 25 which can be selectively clutched to the output shaft 19 by a clutch sleeve 26.
