Abstract

781,788. Crankshafts. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Jan. 24, 1955 [Jan. 22, 1954], No. 2067/55. Class 80 (2). A crankshaft, cast with uniform wall thickness, in spheroidal graphitic iron, has separate hollow spaces 21, 23, 25 passing through each main journal 10, 11, 12; and further separate hollow spaces 22, 24, passing in S-shaped bends through each pair of adjacent crank pins 13, 14 and 15, 16 and the web connecting them. The webs and hollow spaces are of oval section with the major axis in the direction of rotation. Balance masses 17, 18 are cast on the centre journal. Pipes conduct oil from the three journals to the crank pins, the two outer pipes 30 being of H-form, the two inner pipes 31 similar less one limb. The pipes are in split halves which register in the mould.
