Abstract

A petroleum fuel for internal combustion engines has incorporated therein a polymeric organic silicon compound having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of at least 10,000 centistokes. The silicon compound may be a polymeric silicon ester, such as a polymer of ethyl silicate, or a silicone, such as one having ethyl and phenyl substituents, there being present two phenyl radicals per one ethyl radical. The silicon ester or silicone may have a viscosity between 10,000 and 1,000,000 centistokes at 25 DEG C. The fuel may contain up to 1 per cent, preferably 0.05 per cent, by weight of silicon compound. Tetraethyl lead or tricresyl phosphate may also be present.
