Abstract

780,421. Wire belt slings. LANE & SONS, Ltd., G. Feb. 14, 1955 [Nov. 13, 1953], No. 31455/53. Class 78 (4). The belt portion 5 of a sling is woven from wire in such a way that it will flex only at right angles to its length and terminates in cast metal members having flat portions 6 by which they are secured to the belt and cylindrical portions 6a to receive two high tensile pins 7, 8 for swivelling connection to shackles 9, 11. In the form illustrated the end members are cast on to the belt so that the metal flows through the interstices of the belt. The shackle 9 is narrower than the shackle 11 so that it can be passed through the shackle 11 to form a choke sling. The member 6a may be of ferrous or non-ferrous metal. The belt 5 may be woven about transverse rods providing the lateral stiffness.
