Abstract

780,144. Food mixers. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 9, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 25907/55. Class 86 A food mixer comprises an elongated spinner shaft 25 one end of which is adapted to be detachably connected to, and driven by a power unit 10, the other end, carrying a spinner 42, being engaged and steadied by a guide 16 which has a part adapted to be detachably received by the power unit. As shown, the power unit 10 has a handle 11 which fits in a socket 13 in the handle of a mixing cup 15. The guide tube 16 at its upper end is detachably received in a socket 17 formed in the casing 18 of the power unit 10. The casing has a recess 19 to receive arms 20 of a latch 21, the upper end of which lies in a recess 23 and engages beneath a protuberance 22 on the guide tube 16. At its lower end the tube 16 has a nylon bearing 26 for the spinner shaft 25 which is reduced at its upper end and fits within a hollow connector 32 containing a spring 40. The connector has a hemispherical portion 33 and a lug 34 which fit into correspondingly shaped portions of the end of the armature shaft 31 of the power unit. The inner wall of the connector has longitudinal grooves 38 to receive protuberances 39 formed on the reduced portion 37 of the spinner shaft. The lug 34 on the connector readily breaks off if the spinner should become stalled, requiring a new connector.
