Abstract

923,993. Hose connections. NATIONAL UNION ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1961 [Nov. 1, 1960], No. 34852/61. Class 99(1). A tubular hose coupling has detent means engageable in one rotary position thereof with an inverted generally U-shaped spring member loosely disposed adjacent an opening in a suction cleaner casing for releasably retaining the coupling in the opening, the detent means being disengageable from the spring member in response to rotation of the coupling to another rotary position thereof for withdrawal of the coupling from the opening. There is a retainer structure embracing and loosely supporting the spring member for limited bodily movement of the member upwardly from the coupling during removal of the coupling from the opening to relieve spring tension and to facilitate disengagement of the detent means from the member. As shown, the coupling comprises an outer tubular member 51 of a plastic and an inner sleeve 52 of metal one portion of which extends into the hose 18 and is fastened thereto by a ferrule 53, a portion of the hose wall being compressed in an annular groove 54 in the sleeve. The member 51 is secured to the sleeve by a split resilient spring ring 56 seated in opposed grooves in the member and sleeve and is freely rotatable on the sleeve. Diametrically spaced grooves 66 are indented in the outer surface of the member 51 for the reception of the legs 67 of a U- shaped, resilient spring 68. By means of indicia 63, the grooves 66 are aligned with the legs 67 and the coupling is moved axially into the socket opening 17 until the legs snap into the grooves, the rib 64 on the member 51 abutting the tubular portion 36 of the socket. By rotating the member 51 the legs 66 are disengaged from the grooves to allow withdrawal of the coupling member.
