Abstract

1,066,637. Hose couplings. HOOVER Ltd. Jan. 26, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964], No. 6189/64. Heading F2G. A tubular spigot assembly adapted to be inserted and secured in the tubular socket of a suction cleaner 11 comprises a pair of concentric members 15, 16, at least one latching member 33, and spring means 35 arranged to bias the latching shoulder outwards through an opening 40 in the section 22 of the member 16. The shoulder is movable between three positions, namely, a latching position in which it projects from the member 16, an intermediate position to which it is moved to permit withdrawal of the assembly from the socket by a camming action caused by relative axial movement of the members, and an inner position to which it can be manually moved to permit complete axial separation of the members. The members are biased apart axially by a spring 31, and the latching members 33 and spring means 35, which are formed as integral mouldings of plastics material, are positioned in channels 34 in the member 15; a sealing ring 26 promotes air-tightness between the members. By moving the member 16 against the pressure of the spring 31, a cam surface 43 in the aperture 40 engages the inclined surface of the member 33 to cause the shoulder 39 to disengage from the shoulder 13 of the socket. A protector sleeve 18 is located on the member 15 by a flange 19 which seats in an annular groove 20.
